DSM is the perfect size — big enough to offer plenty to do, and small enough to get to know folks. I moved here in 2005, and it's been fun to watch the city come into its own over those last two decades. People are proud to call this place home.

One of Michael’s favorite things about Greater Des Moines (DSM) is the bike trails. Especially the four-mile paved loop around Easter Lake in Des Moines. The region is a mecca for cyclists with over 800 miles of connected trails, making it a destination for biking, as well as walking, running, rollerblading, cross-country skiing and many other favorite outdoor recreation activities.

Michael also loves to enjoy live music at Noce, a chic venue in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) known for its jazz and cabaret events and specialty cocktails. The vibrant live music scene in DSM boasts an amazing blend of mainstream and innovative music. From big name acts performing at Wells Fargo Arena or Vibrant Music Hall to more eclectic and indie artists taking the stage at Wooly’s, Val Air Ballroom or Hoyt Sherman Place, there is always so much music to explore and love around DSM.

Another best-loved favorite of Michael’s around DSM is the Des Moines Art Center. Michael enjoys visiting the museum’s modern and contemporary art. He finds joy in perusing the exhibits and magnificent collections of paintings, sculptures, photography, prints and other craft-based works and learning more about the artists behind each piece of artwork.
