Kristin Kuykendall lives in West Des Moines located on the western side of Greater Des Moines (DSM), and owns her own cottage bakery called Biker Chic Cupcakes. Kristin feels DSM is the perfect sized city and enjoys exploring the bike trails, restaurants and coffee shops in the region.

Des Moines is the perfect size city! I love that there are so many things to do without all the traffic.
One of Kristin’s favorite places to grab a bite to eat in the DSM area is Cooper’s on 5th. Nestled in Historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines, Cooper’s on 5th is the perfect spot for lunch, dinner or meeting up with friends for a craft cocktail. The menu features comfort food with an old-school neighborhood bar and eatery vibe. The Coffeesmith is another preferred spot Kristin frequents. Located in Waukee, a suburb just a bit further west, The Coffeesmith is where you’ll find handcrafted artisanal coffee beverages, muffins, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The Coffeesmith aims to build relationships and local community through a shared love for coffee. Kristin also loves to hop on her bike and explore the Racoon River Valley Trail, a 72-mile loop connected to DSM’s 800+ miles of recreational trails region-wide. The Raccoon River Valley Trail is the longest paved loop trail in the nation, lending to the perfect activity for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the beautiful views of prairies and woodlands along the trail, convenient stops for food and drink, as well as camping and art, too.
