I love that Des Moines is such a great secret. With a world-class art scene, exceptional restaurants that rival some of the best in the world, hundreds of miles of bikes trails and so much more!
Charlie’s list of favorites includes shopping in the Historic East Village in Downtown Des Moines (DSM). Spend a day on the east side of the Des Moines River in the East Village business district leisurely browsing at RAYGUN and Kitchen Collage, pick out a book at Storyhouse Bookpub, grab a coffee at Vibrant Coffeehouse + Kitchen or a cocktail at The Republic on Grand.
Another favorite of Charlie’s in DMS is the tasty array of unique and local restaurants. Two of his favorites include Prime & Providence and Oak Park. The culinary scene in DSM boasts one-of-a-kind offerings and menus that rival some of the best restaurants in the world.
The region’s arts top Charlie’s list as well, including visiting Broadway musicals, an endless stream of festivals and public events, as well as the Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Metro Opera and Des Moines Ballet. Charlies also loves to visit the Des Moines Art Center, John & Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park and the Des Moines Public Library
A bonus on Charlie’s list of DSM favorites is the hundreds of miles of bike trails available for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as and opportunities for climbing, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding and anything else outdoorsy.
