Job Description
Are you someone who loves working outdoors, getting your hands in the dirt, and making a meaningful impact on the landscape? The Brenton Arboretum is looking for a dedicated Groundskeeper to help maintain and care for our beautiful 148-acre arboretum.
This is hard but rewarding work—physically active, hands-on, and essential to keeping our living collection of trees and natural landscapes thriving. If you’re detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently, we’d love to hear from you!

Essential Job Functions
• Planting and caring for trees
• Safely using small engine equipment like string trimmers and leaf blowers
• Weeding and maintaining shrub and perennial beds
• Removing invasive trees and weeds
• Operating large equipment (like pickup trucks, tractors, riding mowers) safely
• Working across all areas of the arboretum
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Other Formal Training
None required
Experience
Experience in landscaping preferred but not required.
Benefits
• Hours: 40 hours per week, with flexibility
• Term: Spring, Summer, and Fall
• Pay: Starting at $17 per hour
About the Company
The Brenton Arboretum is a not-for-profit public charity whose mission is to inspire joy through the beauty and knowledge of the natural world of trees. Our 148-acres includes more than 4,000 trees and shrubs in our collection, miles of trails, ponds and wetlands, and restored prairies and woodlands. The Arboretum is open to the public daily, free of charge.
